Long Nights & Northern Lights

“When I look at the northern lights ... I see our ancestors dancing around a sacred fire, lighting the way for us when it's time for us to cross over from this physical world and join them."
-Molly Larkin

Mojo had multiple cysts removed this past Thursday, and returned home with 7 new incisions. Most of them are at the base of his tail and one on the back of his right leg.
He was still under the effects of the anesthesia and pretty out of it when we picked him up. He didn’t seem to understand where he was and stared into space for most of the evening. He has always had a tendency to shut down when he is overwhelmed, dissociating from trauma, and this has all been quite traumatic for him. It would be for any dog.

Out of sorts.

Our vet was able to remove the sutures from the previous surgery, so that was a big plus. They were quite extensive and more than likely becoming itchy and bothersome.

He had to take a late night potty break, and when we stepped outdoors I felt as if I had walked onto another planet. It was so bright! The sky above us was lit up with Northern Lights. Green, blue, red, pink and orange colors danced across the sky in one of the most colorful show of lights I have seen in a very long time. We walked over to an open area near our driveway and I snapped a few captures with my Iphone. I was pleasantly surprised at how well they turned out. I watched them for a good 15 minutes before we returned inside. Normally I would have grabbed my good camera and a tripod, but this was not one of those normal nights. I’m just grateful that I was able to enjoy them for the short time we were out. I needed a bit of magic and it showed up in spades.

He is doing well today. Hungry and frisky with plenty of tail wags. He’s not too thrilled with still being confined to his bed on the floor, but he’s resting well and the swelling has gone down. We received quite a bit of snow today, and despite having numerous incisions, the urge to take a roll in the snow was strong. He’s always lit up like a Christmas tree when he notices fresh snow. But, the way our weather patterns have been, there may be enough snow for him to play in once the incisions have healed. We’ll see. As much as I am ready for it to be gone, if it makes him happy, then I’m very ok with that. He deserves his own type of magic.

Peace.
