Unexpected Update
“The unexpected might be the place we were meant to be all along.”

Mojo had been doing so well, adapting to his new routine and getting back to his frisky self. Then over this past weekend, another large sebaceous cyst ruptured.
Sebaceous cysts are tricky to treat and so unpredictable. They can lie dormant for years under the skin surface, then when irritated just right, they fill up with fluid very quickly.
Our vet talked me through what I needed to do for him until we could get him in to be seen Monday. What had happened is a tech that was unfamiliar with his long history of problematic cysts had shaved over a large area that was riddled with cysts while preparing him for his last surgery. It became inflamed very quickly by the irritation, but it would have happened sooner or later.
Since that time two other cysts in the same general area have also started to fill with fluid, so our vet decided to set a surgery date for this coming Thursday. Otherwise, as I stated previously, this is just a vicious cycle of tending to an open wound that will not heal. I apply warm compresses every couple of hours to keep the inflammation down, but they’re very painful.
As much as I dread the thought of putting him through yet another surgery, his incisions from the extensive surgery that he had done two weeks ago are healing well. He’s on antibiotics to keep infection at bay and pain meds. It’s better than this happened sooner than later, because I need to get him in good shape before I start with my own procedures. Getting down on the floor with him is not as easy as it used to be and I need a breather. We all do.
So that was our first day of spring, which started off at our vet clinic. But it was also a beautiful sunny day, with clear blue skies and while we waited in the parking lot, we enjoyed a virtual river of the first Turkey Vultures to return soaring overhead.
I’ll post updates as time permits.
Peace.
