A Joyful Noise

Sandhill Cranes (and a wayward Canada Goose)

We shake with joy, we shake with grief.

What a time they have, these two

housed as they are in the same body.

(Mary Oliver)

A small flock of Sandhills just passed over the house loudly announcing their arrival, while I was out in the snow covered woods feeding the skinny chipmunks that emerged too soon. I closed my eyes and turned my face up to the sun, just letting that joyful noise sink into my heart.

This has been such an incredibly difficult winter, and I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one that is ready for spring and all that it entails.

There may have been a few tears.
